The Michelin Guide's review
Before the port was built, it was bathed by the sea. This is the best example of how the palace has been taken over by subsequent constructions. Note the trace of the old arcades: originally, this was an open gallery, a sort of long covered terrace, where the emperor could stroll while looking out to sea. At each end and in the middle, three loggias, some of whose columns remain, broke up the regularity of the architecture.
