Archaeological Museum
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The Archaeological Museum is devoted to the ancient past of Apollonia (the ancient name of Sozopol). It illustrates the volume of trade that existed between Thracian tribes and the Greek world (ships'anchors, jars...) and displays a fine set of ceramics. You will also learn that the city was the first democratic State on Bulgarian soil. Finally, after a brief presentation of the Roman occupation, the museum deals with the period of the Bulgarian Empires, and then with the long Ottoman occupation through relics, jewellery and documents.
