The Michelin Guide's review
In the 17C, the ferry across the Forth was the busiest crossing in Scotland. However, it was a full two centuries later before the first bridge was built over the river at the same point. Begun in 1883, the Forth Rail Bridge was inaugurated in 1890. The Forth Road Bridge, a narrow and strangely curved suspension bridge, was built between 1958 and 1964. The Queensferry Crossing, built to relieve the Forth Road Bridge, was finally opened in 2017.
