The Michelin Guide's review
This church, built between 1782-83, had to wait 80 years for its bell tower because Josef II, Emperor of Austria, had forbidden the building of bell towers on Lutheran churches. The huge church can seat a congregation of 3 000 on three levels. It is home to one of the largest organs in Hungary. To the side, the former presbytery houses an exhibition which tells the story of the Lutheran community and displays a collection of paintings, liturgical objects, manuscripts and books belonging to the church.
