Kykuit, which is Dutch for "lookout," is the most picturesque of the Hudson Valley estates and also one of the most recent. The house was built in 1906 by John D. Rockefeller for his father, the founder of Standard Oil. Kykuit has housed four generations of Rockefellers and the neo-Classical interior is reminiscent of an English country home. The superb views over the Hudson as well as splendid gardens and artwork make for striking scenes.
