The Michelin Guide's review
The section of Route 55 between Skjolden (rear of Lustrafjorden) and Lom is one of the most scenic drives of Norway. Also called Sognefjellsveg, its hairpin bends climb up from the furthest end of the last arm of Sognefjord. It marks the point when the mountains replace fjords. The road then climbs over Norway's highest pass (1,440m/4,724ft) revealing steppes, high plateau, frozen lakes even in summer, walls of snow lining the road and incredible views of the black and white summits.
