Silkeborg Museum
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This musem of regional history and local crafts is housed in the oldest building in Silkeborg: a manorhouse built in 1767. The recent wing is home to an exhibition on the Iron Age and the daily life of Tollund Man's contemporaries, around 400 BC. The museum's treasure, Tollund Man, was found in 1950 in a peat bog near Silkeborg. The man had been sacrificed to gods and then laid out in a peat bog, where he became mummified, still with a rope round his neck. The expression on his face is strangely alive and extremely moving.
