The Michelin Guide's review
Save for a few basins and the pyramid-shaped Phimeanakas temple, little remains of the former wooden royal palace of Jayavarman V (968-1000). Most of the original buildings were demolished to make way for the new city of Angkor Thom, laid out by Jayavarman VII in the 12C,. The most spectacular of what does remain is the Terrace of the Elephants, a continuing bas-relief nearly 300m/1000ft-long with elephants 2.5m/8ft high.
