The Michelin Guide's review
This substantial 19C agricultural estate and National Historic Landmark on the shores of Lake Champlain was the country home of railroad tycoon William Seward Webb and his wife Lila Vanderbilt Webb, granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt. The 1,400-acre farm now operates as a nonprofit organization whose aim is to educate for a sustainable future; on site are a working dairy, a cheesemaking facility and a market garden. Shelburne House (1899), boasting views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks, also offers hotel accommodation.
