The Michelin Guide's review
Shanyin Lu is one of the best-preserved streets in Shanghai, with its rows of red-brick lilong and mature plane trees providing welcome shade from the fierce sun. For three years, from 1933 to his death, the father of contemporary Chinese literature, Lu Xun (1881-1936), lived in the last house (no 9) of this lilong. On the first floor, you can see the desk where he worked and photos of his two sons. The house next door contains a library of translated works.
