The Michelin Guide's review
The Peace Hotel was built in 1929 by the immensely rich Victor Sassoon with profits from the opium trade. Topped by a pyramid-shaped tower in green copper, this sublime example of the Art Deco style was a luxurious and palatial building, the memory of which has been preserved in the Dragon Phoenix restaurant. From the lobby to the ballroom, the emphasis is on refinement, with stuccowork, elegant wood panelling, monumental chandeliers, historiated stained glass, and works by Lalique.
