The Michelin Guide's review
Laid out over the course of different historical periods, these magnificent gardens occupy 80% of the surface area of the alcázar, forming terraces where water features enjoy pride of place. The best view over the site is from the Mercury Lake and the Grutesco Gallery (17C), which take up an entire section of the old walls. Note also the Baths of María de Padilla: a huge "cave" beneath the vaults of the Crusader Patio, plus the maze and landscaped garden.
