The Michelin Guide's review
The Ballon de Servance, a few miles west of the Ballon d'Alsace, is 1 216m high. The easiest way to differentiate between the two is by looking at the peaks: the first has a Virgin Mary on top, and the second a military fort. There are magnificent panoramic views from the summit: to the west, the Vallée de l'Ognon and the Esmoulières glacial plateau, dotted with lakes; to the northwest, the Monts Faucilles; to the northeast, the Vosges; to the east, the Ballon d'Alsace; and to the south, the foothills of the Vosges.
