The Michelin Guide's review
On the left in the Holy Trinity St Sergius Lavra, one's eye is caught by a long (85m) building with polychrome walls and an exuberant decor set on a white basement (the former kitchen) and surrounded on three sides by a vast ambulatory. The immense 510m2 room designed for ceremonies and receptions is now an extension of the Church of St Sergius (1686-1692) where the faithful congregate. The groined vault on the ceiling is held up without any support - a technical feat! The murals are from the late 18C. The 17C sculpted wood iconostasis is from a Muscovite church.
