The Michelin Guide's review
The site of the fortified castle has been occupied at least since the time of Emperor Claudius (41-54 CE). While its history is still uncertain, it would seem to date from the Middle Ages. A picturesque jumble of ruins bear witness to its heritage up until the reign of Henri II. St Maurice priory within the castle walls houses the Musée de la Vénerie, devoted to hunting.
