The Michelin Guide's review
Ephesus is one of the best preserved cities of the Antique world. Excavation work, which first started here in the 1860s, has uncovered most of its streets and buildings, including its town hall, houses, shops and public latrines. In this dazzling city of white marble, Ephesus shows us what daily life was like during the period of the Greeks and Romans, and such is the magical and eloquent nature of its remains that uninitiated visitors do not need an experienced archaeologist to bring the city to life. To avoid the crowds and the summer heat, it's best to visit the site first thing in the morning.
