The Michelin Guide's review
This Cistercian abbey was built in a lonely site, according to the strict rules of austerity laid down by Saint Bernard, and was consecrated in 1217 by Pope Honorius III. It is a lovely example of early Italian Gothic architecture. Note the richly worked round-headed doorway, the nave with two aisles separated by massive columns, the cloisters with their twin columns, a well and a pleasant flower garden, together with the remarkable chapter-house.
