The Michelin Guide's review
The town was once surrounded by 19 tall windmills, which were used to grind grain. Five high balustraded mills still stand along the Noordvest, the canal marking the site of the old ramparts: De Walvisch (Whale, 1794), De Vrijheid (Liberty, 1785), which still occasionally operates at weekends, De Drie Koornbloemen (Three Cornflowers, 1770), once used to grind cattle feed, De Noord and De Nieuwe Palmboom (New Palm Tree, 1781).
