The Michelin Guide's review
This nowadays disused monastic complex, in a remote setting amid attractive countryside, suffered serious damage during an American bombing raid in 1969. It has, however, preserved its sanctuary, full of charm and pierced by narrow openings which endow it with its out-of-the-ordinary appearance. The interior is home to a remarkable array of naive frescoes in pastel tones, depicting a mix of Buddhist and mythological scenes, as well as fantastic, exotic (giraffes) and more common animals (buffalo and horses).
