The Michelin Guide's review
The historic town of Sarlat, so characteristic of the Périgord region, is famous for its magnificent architectural heritage of honey-coloured limestone and attractive inner courtyards. It is a delight to wander around its streets and passages in the heart of the beautifully preserved medieval and Renaissance city, stopping to admire its cathedral, private mansions (Maleville, Plamont, etc) and squares. The Church of St Mary's, reworked by Jean Nouvel, stands on Place de la Liberté and commands a splendid 360° panorama of the town.
