The Michelin Guide's review
Disused since 1981, the whaling factory, marked by its chimney and its white façade adorned in red letters with the inscription ‘Vitaminas, Óleos, Farinhas, Adubos Armações Baleeiras reunidas Lda’ (vitamins, oils, flours, fertilisers, then the name of the cooperative) now houses the very interesting museum. Whales were towed from all the islands in the centre and beached on this quay to be cut up. The imposing machines have been preserved. On the forecourt of the museum, a tapering whaleboat evokes this sporting and perilous hunt.
