The Michelin Guide's review
The square, named after the cathedral façade which is known as the "work of gold", is the historical heart of Santiago. Its four sides are lined by impressive buildings erected over 700 years in various styles: Baroque, the façade of the cathedral; Renaissance, the front of the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos; neo-Classical, the Pazo de Raxoi; and Gothic, the doorway of the Colegio de San Jerónimo. A plaque at the centre of the square indicates the 0km distance marker for the Way of St James.
