The Michelin Guide's review
This is all that remains of the twelfth of California's 21 missions, founded in 1791. The only original building dates from 1824 and was used to house Indian converts; it is now devoted to exhibitions on the lifestyle of the mission's inhabitants. Despite its initial status, Santa Cruz mission gradually fell into decline in the wake of fires, floods and earthquakes. In 1931 a small replica of the adobe church was erected.
