The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Exhibits in this complex of Spanish-style stucco buildings, which sits on 11 acres in a wooded canyon, display the flora, fauna, geology and ethnography of the West Coast. The Chumash Indian Hall contains one of the state's largest collections of artifacts from this tribe. In other galleries, dioramas depict the natural habitats of a variety of local wildlife from sharks to seagulls. Visitors can explore the relationship between water, plants and insects via a combination of live specimens, videos and computer terminals. The Gladwin Planetarium presents a variety of dazzling shows daily during museum hours and on some Saturday nights (daytime shows $4, evening shows $6; call ahead for show times).
