The Michelin Guide's review
This building, originally designed to house Peter the Great's twelve governmental bodies, is now the seat of a prestigious university that can boast former faculty members of the likes of Mendeleev, who created the periodic table of elements, and Pavlov, author of the famous theory of "conditioned reflexes". Architect Domenico Trezzini designed the twelve identical pavilions side by side, forming a long facade whose architectural harmony was intended to symbolise political unity.
