The Michelin Guide's review
Dominated by the spire of the Admiralty building, this district is ideal for a pleasant walk. You will be delighted by its streets lined with palaces. Head for the columns of St Isaac's Cathedral, which command a wonderful view of the capital of the North. If you are lucky enough to be there in June, pop down to the quayside and admire the stunning sight of the river's bridges which seem to perform a silent ballet beneath the magical illuminations of the White Nights.
