The Michelin Guide's review
This bridge spanning the Fontanka bears the name of military engineer Mikhail Anichkov, who oversaw the construction of the first - wooden -bridge. The bridge is mainly known for its magnificent sculptures of horses and their tamers standing on its corners. Made by Piotr Klodt in 1850, they illustrate the four stages in taming a wild horse, an allegory of the triumph of man over nature. The bridge affords lovely views of the surrounding palaces, particularly the Bieloselsky-Bielozersky Palace.
