The Michelin Guide's review
It withstood Louis XIV's assaults and was the most powerful fortress in the valley until being dismantled by the French in 1797. Climb up the clock tower to see all of the buildings and the Rhine valley, including two castles – Burg Katz and Burg Maus – on the opposite bank. At the large Lorelei rock, the river narrows, stirring up the current with its deep eddies.
