Archaeology Museum Mariano Gambier
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Although its collections are not displayed to maximum effect, the San Juan archaeological museum will be of interest to those keen to delve into the mysteries of 8 500 years of the province's cultural history and the evolution of its techniques, habitats and rituals. In addition to pottery, tools and fabrics, visitors will be spellbound by the displays of perfectly preserved mummies of men, women and children. The highlight of the collection is without doubt the mummy found 6 300m above sea level, an illustration of Inca sacrificial rituals.
