The Michelin Guide's review
Felipe V, grandson of Louis XIV, wanted a garden which reminded him of his childhood. The layout of the 360-acre parkland was entrusted to, among others, landscape artist Carlier and gardener Boutelou, who were inspired by Versailles. Three main alleys link the gardens, adorned with fountains, sculptures and water features, fed by an immense reservoir where the sovereigns would go boating on a gondola.
