The Michelin Guide's review
The neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury, which was famous in the 1960s for its counterculture, psychedelic artists and hippies, subsequently became synonymous with drugs and violence. In the 1980s, however, when investors saw the potential of its splendid Victorian houses, it enjoyed a revival, notably on the slopes of Buena Vista Park. Today smart fashion boutiques have replaced second-hand outlets, but Haight Street remains laid back.
