The unexpected twin spires of St Peter's and St Paul's Church are sometimes called a marzipan church. The city's handsome Italianate church (1924) bears witness to the community's wealth, derived at the time from its many fishermen. Hence the annual procession (October) in honor of Saint Peter and Paul, patron saints of fishermen. Interestingly, it was here that screen legend Marilyn Monroe and baseball hero, Joe DiMaggio, of the New York Yankees were reportedly married in 1954.
