The Michelin Guide's review
Founded by Franciscans, this was the sixth of the 21 missions built in California. Originally composed of a chapel, living quarters, a school, workshops, common rooms, a walled garden and a cemetery, the latter is all that remains today. At present, visitors can tour the adobe chapel (1791) which serves as a reminder of the city's Spanish heritage. A modest museum houses sacred objects and a cabinet display devoted to Junípero Serra, a New World missionary.
