Marston House
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The 8,500sq-ft Arts and Crafts mansion (1905, Irving Gill) was built as the home of local department-store owner George White Marston-benefactor of Presidio Park-and his wife, Anna Gunn Marston. Currently operated by the San Diego Historical Society and the city of San Diego, the house displays a fine collection of authentic Craftsman furnishings by such masters of the style as Stickley and Ellis. Few of the furnishings are original to the house. The five-acre grounds, including a formal English romantic garden, reflect the work of several noted landscape designers, among them Kate Sessions, who pioneered the development of Balboa Park.
