Historical and archaeological site
The Michelin Guide's review
Perched at the top of an artificially levelled hill (10m ascent), the Alto de Lavapatas offers some unforgettable 360° views of the mountains. This is the oldest site in San Agustín (3300 BC). Simple, small tombs have been unearthed here, suggesting that it was a children's necropolis - no doubt those of important people living on the site. The monumental statues discovered here, which are later, date from the Classical period.
