The Michelin Guide's review
Built between 1220 and 1258, Salisbury Cathedral, the only English cathedral with such a unity of style, epitomises Early English Gothic architecture at its best and purest. Much of this construction was the work of Elias of Derham. The upward extension of the tower and the construction of the 123m-high spire were part of a second phase (1334-1380). The materials used in the cathedral's construction included silvery-grey limestone from Chilmark and Purbeck marble.
