The Michelin Guide's review
It would be hard to miss this mountain, which looms at an altitude of 1 551m along the ridge separating the Loire and Rhône basins. Mt Gerbier, part of the Mézenc mountains, is made up of phonolithic rock, which forms unstable sections of fallen rocks. The sources of the Loire River spring at the foot of the southwest slope. The Gerbier-de-Jonc is at its most impressive if you come upon it from the direction of St-Martial or Ste-Eulalie. The climb to the top is tough but relatively short and it is worth making the effort for the impressive views.
