The Michelin Guide's review
This Richardsonian Romanesque manse (1891) stands as a tribute to the hard work of Canadian-born railroad tycoon James Hill. The house is striking today in terms of its intricately carved woodwork and the austere-looking interior. Only the dining room has retained the integrity of its decoration. A.B. Cutter & Co. created the stained-glass windows in the stairwell. Visitors also have access to the bedoroms and the rooms where the staff officiated.
