Occupying a lovely site on a small island in the midst of Salmon River, the zoo provides a fabulous introduction into Canada's wildlife (caribou, wapiti, black bears, wolves and bison) who roam free in the Nature Trails Park. Visitors can observe the animals from the safety of a specially designed train. The site also makes it possible to explore authentic historic buildings: a pioneer home from 1875, a trading post, a Montagnais camp and a 1930s lumberjack camp.
