The Michelin Guide's review
Housed in a handsome Italianate mansion just south of Old Sacramento, this venerable institution opened its doors in 1872 as the West's first public art museum. The Crocker Art Museum boasts holdings that range from 19C German and American art, 16C and 17C Flemish and Dutch artists and 17C Italian masters, without forgetting European art, African and Oceanic objets d'art and ceramics, among which a splendid Asian collection and a contemporary Californian collection.
