The Michelin Guide's review
Wadi Rum's high cliffs seem to advance in the face of an ocean of sand. Eroded by the wind, the steep rockfaces of fine red and ochre sandstone rise amid broad sandy plains. Despite its classification as a Unesco World Heritage Site, the protected zone of Wadi Rum has fallen victim to an uncontrolled process of urbanisation that is ever gaining ground. By 4x4 or camel or on foot or horseback, visitors can still explore this majestic desert with its Bedouin denizens.
