The former Centraal Station (1957) was demolished to make way for Stationsplein, a super-modern station capable of managing high-speed trains from northern Europe and all alternative transport modes to the automobile, including Randstad Rail and the Rotterdam-The Hague-Zoetermeer intercity railway.
