The Michelin Guide's review
Built between 1914 and 1920, the City Hall is one of the few buildings in Rotterdam to have escaped the bombing of the Second World War. Its belfry houses a fine peal of 63 bells. It's worth taking a look at the Art Deco vestibule and central lobby: in addition to the dome and aisles, the stained-glass windows evoke the importance of the port and Rotterdam's status as a trading centre, illustrated perfectly by the town's motto Navigare necessare est (to sail is necessary).
