The Michelin Guide's review
A sandy beach dominated by the Argyll peaks is a splendid setting for this large Victorian dwelling. R. Rowand Anderson built it for the third marquis of Bute (1847-1900), known for his learning and culture, mystical beliefs and passion for architecture. Don't miss the vaulted ceiling, studded with stars, in the main hall.
