The Michelin Guide's review
Trajan's Market was home to around 150 shops, arranged in terraces against the Quirinal Hill. Designed by the same architect as the forum (Apollodorus of Damascus), this was not only a retail market, like the Forum Boarium and Forum Holitorium, but also an administrative centre. Its name (Mercati di Traiano) does not date from Roman times, but was given to the site by the archaeologists who excavated it.
