The Michelin Guide's review
This 27mi-long lake, largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River, offers boating, sailing and fishing with gorgeous mountain views. It fills a basin formed after rivers of ice scooped a trench in the valley floor and deposited a terminal moraine where the town of Polson now stands. With its Western-theme architecture and storybook lakeside setting, Bigfork is a center for the arts and fine dining. Galleries and gift shops line its main street, and the Bigfork Summer Playhouse draws sellout crowds to productions of comedies and Broadway musicals. South of Bigfork, cherry orchards and roadside stands stud the lake's eastern shoreline.
