The Michelin Guide's review
Begonia was discovered in the Caribbean in the late 17C by botanist Charles Plumier, who named it after the Intendant of the Navy in Rochefort, Michel Bégon, who had sent him there. The large greenhouse contains over 1 500 species of begonia, which didn't become acclimatised to Europe until the late 18C.
