The Michelin Guide's review
Built above the Saxon crypt of St Wilfrid's church (672), the cathedral, started in 1154, offers visitors the spectacle of its impressive Early English Gothic main façade. The treasury displays a collection of silverware as well as the "Ripon jewel", a Saxon brooch embellished with amber and garnets, which was found nearby in 1976.
