The Federal-era brick residence was home to the third US Supreme Court chief justice John Marshall (1755-1835). Known as the "Great Chief Justice" for the status he brought to the court during his 34-year tenure (beginning in 1801), Marshall lived here for much of his adult life, and his family furnishings still decorate the house.
