The Michelin Guide's review
An eclectic gem, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts sprawls over four wings of a building built over the period 1936 to 2010. The collection has grown from its original 100 pieces, donated in 1919 by prominent Virginia judge John Barton Payne, to include over 23 000 pieces that span 5 000 years. Arts from China, Japan, Africa, Ancient Egypt, Classical Greece and Rome, as well as Indian, Himalayan and Islamic art, are well represented. Magnificent collection of Fabergé eggs.
